Thanks for coming to this page, I really appreciate it and don't worry I am not asking for cash! You might be a family member, friend, mental health practitioner or psychologist. You are all very welcome (and apologies for any jargon - I just can't help myself!)
On 1st November, world leaders are gathering in Glasgow to reach decisions that will shape the future of our planet. I’m riding with over 100 cyclists from London to Glasgow, taking a message of climate action to those leaders.
So, would you be willing to make a personal climate pledge?
It’s easy; just commit to try a simple action in your every day life for the next two months.
Your actions will have a direct carbon saving AND they’ll help us send a powerful message that people care and are ready for action.
There are lots of pledges to choose from. You can pick from the five Do Actions at the bottom of the page (underneath the paragraphs below), or you can choose from 50 more by clicking the ‘pledge’ button above (its up there to the right).
If you do click on "Make a Pledge" and you want to know more about the role of psychology in climate change, you could go for the pledge called "Watch, Listen and Learn" (take a look at Caroline Hickman's study of the impact of government inaction on climate change on young people's mental health
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONbPVPJsEx4).
Or fulfil the pledge called "Feed your noodle" by reading some more climate change information, eg https://xrpsychologists.co.uk/resources/, or following Greta Thunberg on Twitter.
Or pledge to "Voice up" - we need to get better at explaining why climate change is an important issue for psychologists and the people we work with, ie everyone.
Perhaps you have other ideas about what you can do. Maybe join XR Psychologists https://xrpsychologists.co.uk/cycle-to-cop/ , or the Climate Psychology Alliance. Maybe take a look at your employer's environmental impact and start a conversation about it with the senior leaders. With COP26 coming up, now is a great time to do this.
Thank you, you’re helping us all to engage with the climate emergency.
Let's do this together!
How’s the team doing?
These are the actions that we think are most apt right now. There are many more to choose from here.
