On 27 July 2012, as the Olympic gun resonates through the streets of London, British couple Katharine & David Lowrie began their own Olympics.
An epic journey to run the length of South America; 10.000kms (6,400 miles), the equivalent of 250 marathons, through some of the most awe inspiring and biologically rich ecosystems on earth, and YOUR HELP will keep us motivated on the endless road!!!!!
We will run unsupported and pull our gear in a trailer (made of recycled materials, of course!) containing equipment for camping, communications, science, survival. The expedition will be a ‘world first’; first woman and first couple to run the continent.
•Raise money for wildlife charities to conserve, threatened habitats in South America, ensuring their conservation through local governance and employment.
•Connect people to the communities and wildlife they meet via our interactive website and on-the-road communications and examine how, through our actions, we are connected.
•Inspire environmental action; to prove that with small steps we can tackle seemingly insurmountable challenges; it's not too late to protect the world's remaining unspoilt ecosystems, but time is running out.
So Yes, We're asking you to sponsor us... But no, We're not asking you to give me your change: We're asking you to create change.
The DoNation is all about creating a more sustainable world, about protecting the environment on which our livelihoods depend. And the environment needs our action more than it needs our cash.
HOW IT WORKS:
Browse the DoActions and find one (or more) that suits you, then make your pledge(s). Some are really easy; others take a bit more effort.
You only pledge to do your chosen action for two months and all the information you need is provided here on The DoNation, making it really easy to complete. You'll receive a few helpful reminders and then at the end of the two months you'll be asked to confirm how you got on.
So please, get doing!
40 out of 50 Pledges
These are the actions that we think are most apt right now. There are many more to chose from here.
