Let your vacation start at your front door - use your journey to unwind and relax into the holiday vibe.
If you're planning on taking a flight any time soon, be it for work or pleasure, you could save tons of carbon by staying grounded.
Swap a flight for a leisurely train, ferry or bus ride - or even just stay put. A new adventure, right under your feet!
Flying is the single most carbon intensive action any individual can take. We’re not suggesting no one should ever fly again, but just that it’s something we shouldn’t undertake lightly.
In total, aviation makes up 6% of the UK’s national carbon emissions.2 That might not sound like much - but it’s being created by a small minority of the population - 70% of the UK’s flights are made by just 15% of the population. In fact, most people don’t fly at all.8
Avoiding one long distance return flight per year could save up to 8.8 tonnes of CO23 – that’s about the same as the annual emissions of the average Brit.
Finally - the warming effect of an aeroplane's greenhouse gas emissions is almost three times worse than that from land-based transport because of the altitude at which they are emitted – right in the middle of the most vulnerable part of our atmosphere.
If you make a regular flight within the UK or across the channel, why not give the train or bus a go for one of your trips?
